10 on Tuesday

26 Apr

This week’s 10 on Tuesday is your 10 favorite iPhone apps. I don’t have an iPhone, but I do have an iPod Touch. And I love me some apps. So here they are.

1. Mobile RSS. I use this to read all my knitting blogs, news in health and politics, friends blogs, photo blogs, etc. I check it multiple times a day and as anyone knows who is a friend of mine on Facebook, I post a good many articles too. Now you know why it’s so easy. It allow me to post to Facebook, Twitter or email to friends.

2. Facebook. Really it’s just for convenience, but there are plenty of problems with it too. And a million limitations.

3. Words with Friends. An addiction. It’s Scrabble (let’s not pull punches. Let’s call a spade a spade). I play with friends, my husband, relatives. And there’s a chat option while you play.

4. Kindle and Stanza. Two free apps for reading books. Kindle limits you to books on Amazon, but Stanza gives you tons of source options, including Project Gutenberg.

5. Textfree. I can text people without it costing a dime AND people can text me back without needing a special app to do it. They just reply to my text. It’s like having a phone – but not having one. How cool is that?

6. KnitMinder. Yarn inventory, needle inventory, project log, photos and row counters. Can be too cumbersome at times and I’d like it more if it could work with Ravelry (would love if Ravelry made an app), but it’s a good row counter and project log.

7. JustLight. A flashlight. Just a flash light. Stays on until you turn it off. Awesome for going in the bedroom at night when lil guy is sleeping and more awesome for reading in bed (when I’m reading a tangible book). I use this a lot.

8. WordPress. Naturally. 🙂 I don’t like that you can’t specify photo placement, but we can’t be too picky, right?

9. My Writing Nook. Admittedly, I use this one only during NaNoWriMo and I did have problems with it when I’d sync and what was on the Internet overwrote all the new stuff I had written (1,000 words is a lot on an iPod Touch!), but the concept is so great and helpful, I can’t not try again until I get it right. I hope they make “sync to web” and “sync from web” as two separate options.

10. TV.com. Full episodes of shows on CBS. I used to use this a lot when my son was napping and I was knitting and I wanted to stay quiet. Now I might use it while in bed, though I haven’t lately. But it comforts me to know it’s there.

Some extras: Phone Flix (for my netflix queue. Not as good as I want, but the best I’ve found so far), iLoader (for uploading photos to Facebook in batches with rotate and caption options), Peace Alarm (with soothing ambient sounds as a sleep option and timers, bell alarms. Really nice).

Fun 10 on Tuesday. So fun, I did mine on Monday. Ha!
